Christmas 2014 in Egypt – Luxor

Quaint little shops lined the streets of Luxor.

We visited the Valley of the Kings and went inside several of the Pharaoh’s tombs.  Unfortunately no pictures were allowed inside the tombs in order to preserve the tomb wall hieroglyphics and pictures.

Temple of Queen Hatshepsut
Near the Valley of the Tombs was the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut.

Queen Hatshepsut’s son destroyed most of the images of Queen Hatshepsut, but there still was one image remaining.

Temple  of Luxor
We visited the Temple of Luxor, which was constructed by Ramses II.   It was late in the day, so we were able to see it lit up at night.

At one point we were able to view the moon shining directly above the Luxor Obelisk.

The magnificent colonnaded courts were a splendid sight when lit up at night.
