06/18/13 Spring time in UK
You know you are in England when you see the red telephone booths and Royal Mail boxes.
We enjoy walking several trails at Gatton Park on a hill overlooking our community.
Fields of bluebells were breath-taking!
Spring showers have given us a bounty of beautiful flowers!
Note how tall the rhododendrons grow!
Birling Gap, a southern coastal area has white cliffs, lighthouses, and peaceful meadows of grazing sheep.
Royal Botanical Gardens had many varieties of rhododendrons and azaleas as well as unusual plants such as the skunk plant. It did smell like a skunk!
Polesden Lacey House - What a magnificent estate where Mrs Greville, an ambitious Edwardian hostess, entertained and relaxed with friends, such as King George VI and the Queen Mother.
At work, we had a cookout on a rare summerlike day!
Bodiam Castle - This fairytale castle is “one of Britain's most romantic and picturesque, set in the heart of 1066 country. With spiral staircases, battlements and a portcullis, 14th-century Bodiam Castle is the real thing. Windows where arrows were once fired, a tower that was once a look-out and ruins that were once walked upon by knights.”
Battle of Hastings, where William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, defeated King Harold II to become William I in 1066.
